6 Spring Cleaning Tips This May

May is the perfect time to have a clear out. Whether you’re getting ready to move home, decluttering, or just want to give your space a spruce up, here are some spring cleaning tips to get you started. And don’t forget, we’re here to help you clear your home and garden waste — contact Cheap Skip Hire today.

1. Clean one room at a time

It can be tempting to turn the whole property upside down and clear it all at once. However, this can lead to an overwhelming amount of clutter. Cleaning one room at a time ensures you have a nice clean space to relax in when you need a break.

2. Keep it systematic

As well as clearing rooms one by one, it’s helpful to take a systematic approach. A popular method is to set out three large boxes.

Label them:

  • Keep
  • Throw out
  • Give away

As you clean the room, allocate items to a different box. Those you wish to keep, you can find a new home for once the space is clean. Items that can be given to charity can go in the ‘give away’ box. And if you have rubbish and items that need to go to refuse or recycling, use the ‘throw out’ box.

3. Consider affordable skip hire

When it comes to throwing rubbish away, you might want to consider hiring a skip. Many people worry that skip hire can be expensive. However, you can search around for cheap local skip hire. Not only can skip hire be more affordable than you may think, but it can also be extremely helpful in your spring clear out.

A skip provides an external space for you to load rubbish into, saving you from stacking bags and boxes in your nice tidy rooms. What’s more, a responsible waste management company will ensure your skip content is handled responsibly. For instance, at Cheap Skip Hire, we currently recycle 98% of the waste brought to our Norwich site.

To make the process even smoother, it’s a good idea to research what can and can’t go in a skip before you start your spring cleaning.

4. Tackle seasonal tasks

With warmer (hopefully dry) weather on its way, May is the ideal month to carry out those big chores you can’t do when it’s cold and wet. It can be helpful to prioritise washing bulky items, such as duvets and pillows so you can leave them to air dry fully outside.

This is also an excellent time to sort your garden or outdoor space. Do you have a shed that needs decluttering? If you have lots of bulky garden waste to get rid of, such as paving slabs, skip hire can be a good option.

5. Air the property out

Chances are, you’ll be using a variety of cleaning products and dislodging dust as you clear your house out. Doing so in spring, as opposed to winter, means you can make sure your property is well-ventilated to get rid of any chemicals and welcome in some fresh air.

6. Make it fun!

Spring cleaning may involve a lot of manual chores but it doesn’t have to be boring. If you plan on carrying out a full day or weekend of cleaning, why not put some music on and gather plenty of snacks to keep you going?
