Norwich market sets the standard for single-use plastic reduction

Back to News

As a provider of Skip hire across Norwich and Norfolk; at Cheap Skip Hire we have seen the amount of plastic use and non-recyclables increase over the last few decades. We have always focused on recycling the right way and have been following some of the current implementations made by Norfolk Council and its people to become plastic-free with JOY! There has been a dramatic increase over the past year in an attempt to make improvements.

Green councillor Jamie Osborn is also worth praising for his negotiations with Norwich market traders to become plastic-free and the council to provide support. Fingers crossed for a positive result guys but even the early days show promising improvements with many stalls and businesses working to become plastic free.

Sir David Attenborough raised some vital points and done his very best to make people aware of how devastating the impact single-use plastics have on our environment when he brought Glastonbury Festival to silence with his important message. It’s great to see such a famous man make such an impact but this problem is a job for everyone and each person needs to play their part.

With companies looking at options for paper and canvas bags opposed to plastic, Shout outs to stalls such as Lucy’s Fish and Chips, the Mushy Peas Stall, Slay Vintage and Bo-tanical are all doing their part already but it is time to look at what we can do as a community to help Norwich to become plastic free.

At Cheap Skip hire we aim to recycle 100% of the waste retrieved from our skips in ways that do not harm the environment, so for those interested in cleaning up their area we can help with cost effective waste removal in an environmentally friendly way.
